On a more serious note, the acting was great. As usual, people attempt to make comparisons to other films with God's Own Country. Simple things, a cup of food held out to be salted by another, a brief touch of a finger to a lover's hand, gesture which the latter than sees he might use with his father, for a finger to skim the skin of his arm as he lies in a hospital bed. The next day, the two men again engage in a fight that turns into rough sex. Returning late to the farm after such an encounter with a young male auctioneer, he is berated by his father after a calf dies from a breech birth in his absence. The use of scenery, the animals, plants, fields and sky, really brought some wonderful visuals and showcased the true beauty of the natural setting. Johnny, desperate to make it up with Gheorghe, tells his father that he will stay to run the farm, but that things must be run on his terms.
This movie ranks high on my list for gay films, and the fact that it ends on a good note instead of having one of the lovers get captured, shot, caught in an explosion, beaten to death, forcibly separated, lit on fire, die from an illness, get killed from a long fall, or spontaneously combust, it won't make you cry yourself to sleep at night. Everything rings true with this great film. Due to his father's having suffered from a stroke, and his grandmother's age, much of the day-to-day running of the farm falls to Johnny. Gheorghe returns with Johnny; the caravan is taken away, and Gheorghe moves into the house. God's Own Country is a remarkable, profoundly touching film, perhaps the best movie ever made about two men falling in love. There is one moment, among dozens and dozens of others as miraculous, when his father asks him, if the ways of the farm were changed, he would be happy.

You really get a feeling for what difficult job the two men had on the farm and dealing with the negativity of Josh's Disabled Father and Grandmother. There is a scene in it when Georghe touches, holds, Johnny, so carefully, so slowly and gently, that he is, at heart, bringing him through his fingers and hands into a first experience of love, of what such tactility, such silent tenderness in a deep sense means. The only problem is that its only February and my expectations for what a quality gay based movie should be has some pretty big shoes to fill for the movies to yet come the rest of the year. When Gheorghe expresses uncertainty over whether they can stay together and maintain the farm simultaneously, Johnny reacts poorly, drinking to excess and engaging in another random sexual encounter. When one of the ewes gives birth to an unconscious runt, Johnny is intrigued when Gheorghe is able to resuscitate and care for it. At times certain people can be hard to understand due to accents and such, but I didn't find it to detract all that much. The next day, the two men again engage in a fight which results in Johnny performing fellatio on Gheorghe and the two men have rough and passionate sex in the dirt.
